In the Meeting

In the meeting men sit around a table. One is wearing a pink shirt and another a striped shirt.

They're looking, and one is touching his nose, another his hair. They're looking at a man and nodding. One man has started making points with his hand. He has something to say. He's looking now, looking, staring deep in to another man's eyes and he's nodding, agreeing. One of them is pinching his chin and staring, staring in to the meeting and the meeting is staring in to him, but he's stepped out of the meeting with his mind.

They all laugh and then the man who has stepped out laughs, jolted back in with laughter in his ears and tears in his eyes. Smiling faces, but we don't know why. We'll never know why. Something has broken, and they all get up and leave.

They're putting on their trench coats and they're going to go outside.

The End of the Meeting

It's the end of the meeting and a group of suits form in the foyer. The young one stands there in his grey suit, holding his grey tweed coat. He's smiling like one of the old ones has said something funny, rolling forward from his heels to his toes and back again from his toes to his heels. I bet he doesn't know what any of them are saying, but still he smiles, still he is border line laughing. He is about to burst out of his border line, out of his tight red face and in to the streets, laughing and dancing like a jester.

The old ones continue to talk in tense lowered man voices, saying things like 'transparency' and 'discussion'. The words sound good, perfectly formed, on the verge of saying something, but saying nothing.
